Recommendations for the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission

An independent capability review has considered whether the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (the Commission) has what it needs to effectively regulate the aged care sector.

The review will help make sure:

  • aged care services meet Quality Standards and are accountable

  • people can access high-quality aged care

  • older people, their families and carers have a way to raise complaints and concerns about aged care services

The report includes 32 recommendations to strengthen the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. The Australian Government has accepted all the recommendations. These include:

  • a new organisational structure

  • increased data capability and digital infrastructure

  • improved complaint resolution processes

  • enhanced role and independence of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Advisory Council.

Work has already started on implementing the recommendations.
